This is for some of the people on my Friends list so that if/when we meet face to face, I won't have to re account all of this to you!
I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on June 15, 1988.
My dad is African-American, hails from North Carolina, and retired from the military right before the Iraq war started in 2003. My dad's family were forced into slavery and Christianity in the late 1700s, early 1800s. Our family records are actually recorded in the Library of Congress, which is very rare for any formally enslaved families.
My mom is Japanese-Chinese-Dutch- American and hails from Hawaii. My maternal great-grandparents immigrated from Japan to Hawaii in the late 1800s, early 1900s. They were originally Shinto (Japanese pagans) who converted into Christanity. My mom and I do not speak Japanese, but my maternal grandparents do. My grandparents avoided being sent to the internment camps during World War II through my grandpa's ability and intelligence. He and the family moved to Minnesota so that he could work at Fort Snelling to break Japanese spy codes. Pretty cool, huh?
As a military child, I have moved around the United States about every three to four years. I have lived in California, Florida, and Virginia. I consider my physical home to be Minnesota. I was able to move from 6th grade (elementary) up into 10th grade (high school) there with pretty much the same group of friends. When my family moved back to Jacksonville, I was pissed. Okay, that's an understatement. It's taken a few years, making friends, and meeting my future husband to calm me down and realize that Jacksonville isn't such a horrible place, it's just that it's still a developing city. Just a dash of diversity tolerance, a pinch of progressiveness, a cup of culture, and the city will stand up enough on its own.
I'm currently a college student at the University of North Florida where I am studying history. I love to go to museums and hang out with my friends. Politically, I lie between being a liberal and a moderate. I vote! I am a Pagan and a Unitarian Universalist, but I am not a Wiccan. I listen mostly to goth and classical music. I love musicals! I am active in my community and it's easy to find me in a crowd. I love meeting people who are themselves; contradictions and sterotype breakers.
That's my life so far. I can't wait for the next life phase to begin!
